Marking out the spaces that we're going to move through. Marking out the steps we're intending to take. Marking out the areas of light and dark all in preparation for the real thing… the thing we're going to do when you arrive. This is a piece about mark making, about planning ahead and about the unreliability of the paths we imagine we will follow. A work for five very different people who view and navigate their journeys in five very different ways. MARKED is a brand new performance presented by Exim Dance Company and is choreographed by world-renowned dance artist, Adam Benjamin. Exim Dance Company is a Plymouth-based award-winning organisation known for their fresh, vibrant approach to making dance accessible for all. The performance is suitable for a wide range of audiences, with or without dance experience. EXPECTATIONS We thought about wat is expected at a performance, and what is required of a performance. We concluded that there must be an audience or witness, and a performer. PERFORMANCE IN EVERYDAY We are constantly performing. The way we construct sentences and use body language to portray messages and meaning is a performance. The way we dress to present a job role, gender, or social status is a performance. The way we entertain ourselves in the mirror is a performance. We are constantly a witness to others performance, and experience our own performance.
